25. Do you provide load-balancing solutions?
Yes, Westmaster offers dedicated hardware (switch) based load-balancing solutions to increase the performance, reliability, and capacity of your high availability server clusters.
26. Can I have one or more servers linked together for private communications?
Yes, Westmaster offers VLAN connection between your servers. With VLAN each of your servers will be connected to a private switch via 100Mb Ethernet cards. They will also be connected via a second set of 100Mb Ethernet cards to a switch which gives access to the public Internet. VLAN prevents traffic from traveling over a public port, eliminates bandwidth costs for traffic between servers, and provides higher security for communication between servers.
27. What tape backup solutions do you offer?
Sorry, we don't provide that, but we can backup your server to our central backup repository.
28. What is Name Based Hosting? Do I need an IP for each domain on my server?
Name based hosting is a method used to allow a server to host multiple domains with only one IP address. You do not need an IP address for each site; in fact, you only need one IP for the entire server. Name based hosting does not affect the performance or appearance of the domains hosted. It's also a good way to economize on IP usage.
29. How do I add additional IPs? Is there an upgrade fee?
IP addresses may be added anytime. For more information ask Sales.
30. Can my hardware be upgraded? What are the fees for this?
You can upgrade any component of your server at any time to increase your resources as demand requires. Upgrade fees generally range from $75.00 to $150.00 depending on the size of the upgrade, in addition to the incremental price difference.
31. Does Westmaster provide DNS service?
Yes, we can run primary or secondary DNS for you.
32. Can I have my own DNS name servers configured?
You can use our DNS name servers at no cost. If you prefer, we can configure your server to run its own DNS at no additional cost. You can then add as many domains as you like.
If you would like your own name servers, please note that you will have to register the name servers at Internic. The registration process can take from 7 to 10 business days. We recommend that you use the Westmaster name servers for the first month while yours are being configured and registered. DNS service is available to current Westmaster customers only.
33. Can I use dedicated server as my secondary DNS?
Yes, you can use dedicated server for your secondary name server. This service is available at no cost.
34. What security measures are taken at Westmaster?
Westmaster takes security very seriously. Every precaution is taken to ensure that absolutely no one has access to your server other than our technical staff. Passkeys and video surveillance ensure that your server is safe and secure. We do not monitor content and do not release customer profiles or disseminate customer information.
35. Does Westmaster offer any firewall solutions?
Yes - we offer Cisco PIX firewalls solutions. For more information ask Sales.
36. What is the High Availability?
Our high-availability servers, powered by dual Intel processors, are designed to handle the most demanding Internet applications and will help you stay up and running, even during dramatic surges in traffic. And with the ability to scale processing power, memory, and data storage quickly, our HA servers have the redundancy and the scalability you need.
37. How long does it take to get my server set up?
We guarantee that all our standard servers will be online within 24 hours. More complex and high-availability configurations will be up and running within 1 week days.
38. What lease terms do you offer?
We offer contracts for one month, six months, or twelve months.
39. Do you allow spaming?
No! We don't allow that in any form. Please read our service terms.
40. Is adult content allowed?
Yes, but content has to respect laws.
