Microsoft Outlook Express 5 and 6 secure settings
Note: Please note that SMTP authentification will not work with MS Outlook Express version 4 or lower.
What you should know before continuing:
- Name of your domain (eg. "mydomain.com")
- Your account name (eg. "smith")
- Your account password (eg. "secretpassword")
- Email address assigned to your POP account (eg. "smith@mydomain.com")
- Your real name (just kidding ;o)
In simple steps with screenshost we will setup secure connection to your mail account using Outlook Express 5 or 6
Step 1 - Start outlook
Click on Outlook icon.
Step 2 - Open Internet accounts
In menu click on Tools > Accounts. You should see this window.

Step 3 - Create new mail account
Click on Add -> Mail. This will run Internet Connection Wizard. Fill in your real name and click Next button.

Step 4 - Fill in Email adress
Fill in email address assigned to your POP3 account and click next.

Step 5 - Fill in server names
Fill in server names. In our case it's mydomain.com. Then click next button.

Step 6 - Fill in account name and password
Fill in your account name and passwod. DON'T check "Log in using SPA" ! Then click next button.

Step 7 - Secure account
Double-click on new account in Internet Accounts window.

Select Servers tab in mydomain.com Properties window. Check "My server requies authentication".

Click on "Settings..." button. In "Outgoing Mail Server" window check "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" and click "Ok".

Select "Advanced" tab in "mydomain.com Properties" window. And check "This server requies a secure connection (SSL)" under Outgoing mail (SMTP) and under Incoming mail (POP3). When you are finished click "OK" button.

Now you should be back in "Internet accounts window". Click "Close" button.
Now you have secure connection to your mail acount. You can use our server form anywhere, relaying is controled by SMTP AUTH and no password is sent in plain form. Please seleck "Ok" is Outlook is complaining that he can't validate a security certitificate when sending mail.
